Pat, make sure you check the oil level and listen to it run very carefully. Listen for anything that sounds unatural (rattling, knocking etc). The reason I say this is because the Savage motor is well built but does not hold much oil to begin with (only 2 quarts). Many brands of motorcycles are very forgiving of neglectful owners but the Savage oil level MUST be checked regularly to make sure there is enough. I've seen too many postings on this forum of engine failure a very low mileage because of lack of oil. Watch for excessive smoke out of the exhaust too. Check the color of the oil and smell. A rotten egg oder with black oil indicates it has not been changed in a long time (neglect). Good luck. (OH, the oil level window is on the right side (sitting on bike) lower crankcase cover under the clutch cable lever. Hold bike upright and make sure level is least near the upper marks.
